A small coffee place in a quiet street of Warsaw’s busy CBD was the perfect place for a catch up with NeSpoon, a prolific Warsaw-based street artist. Her mega-sized works and installations draw on Polish traditions of intricate handmade doilies. And ‘mega-sized’ is no exaggeration as her murals span multiple levels of buildings, and cover sizeable open spaces.
At the same time, the images provide a connection as they draw on familiar cultural experiences. At our meeting she talks passionately about her work and creative journey, and I keep thinking about her artistic motto which is “The doors open up to those who know where they want to go”.
Her designs have definitely opened the door to our understanding of the Polish artistic, cultural, creative and textile scene. This was just the first day of our group’s visit to Poland – a truly memorable one!
